Japanese Cuisine

Though it's not as fancy as it really is in Japan, I had so much fun making dinner on Monday. I made Yakisoba - Japanese Stir-fry on noodles, Tempura - battered, fried vegetables, Oriental Salad, Rice and Egg Rolls. It felt like a Japanese Thanksgiving. I rarely make so great a meal. I think Yamashita Shimai would be proud. Daniel and I used chopsticks and as we began to eat with them, Jeffrey and Cambree wanted some too, and asked for theirs. We had assumed they would both use forks. But we let them try with their own chopsticks, too. It was adorable watching Jeffrey try to get the chopsticks to hold any sort of food. And he did a pretty good job of it. After the newness of using them as utensils wore off, they both used them as props in doing the actions while singing "The driver on the bus says, 'Move on back. Move on back. Move on back' . . ." I'm grateful for these opportunities to find joy in my children.

Okay, so it sounds like I can't find very many opportunities to find delight in my children, which is totally not the case. In fact, everyday there are many wonderful, pleasing moments that I enjoy. I only take the time to write a few.by Emily on 23 November 2008 at 8:21 p.m.
